Pain for Forest's Manager as The Swans Stun Forest with Dramatic Turnaround
The Forest boss, hands rooted in pockets, was still shaking his head in disbelief as he stepped onto the field at the conclusion of the match.
The Welsh side had just completed an incomprehensible comeback to advance to the EFL Cup next stage, scoring twice in the final four minutes of added time.
The Forest striker registered his maiden goals for the team to earn a two-goal half-time lead, but the manager will have to wait for his first victory in charge.
Postecoglou seemed to accept responsibility for the collapse, gesturing at his own role as he went to thank the away fans.
“We put them through a tough night,” Postecoglou said. “We’ve been eliminated we should have progressed in.”
Before Zan Vipotnik leveled the score in the final moments, it seemed that Postecoglou would chalk up his debut victory.
Forest were stunned when the striker made it even, and reeling when Swansea’s captain, Cameron Burgess, netted his second goal in spectacular fashion.
“It was a moment of pure emotion,” the Swansea head coach said. “I was looking at the clock because Forest that can score from anywhere.”
Things looked ominous for the second-tier team when, down by a pair of first-half goals, Postecoglou brought on impact players.
But, Burgess reduced the deficit eight minutes later, converting a corner.
Andy Fisher made a crucial save to deny Callum Hudson-Odoi, but Forest failed to capitalize to wrap up the win.
“Nothing will come easy,” Postecoglou stated. “We must fight for every success.”
