Labuschagne Left Out from Australia's One-Day International Lineup to Face India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, as in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a surprise selection.

Performance Issues Result in Exclusion

Labuschagne has been omitted from the one-day international squad after being dismissed for one in his two batting efforts during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a highest score of forty-seven in his previous ten ODI batting appearances.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a Test recall ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates

Recent performances suggest of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Tests with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a return to the Test team as Australia look for a solution to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Returns and Injury News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the clean sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Schedule

Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India starts on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
