Donald Trump along with Japan's New Premier Share Praise and Commit to Strengthen ‘Remarkable’ Bond

During a latest trip to Tokyo, ex- US President Trump together with Japan's recently elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi exchanged friendly praise and pledged to enhance the currently robust bilateral relations.

Highlights from the Meeting

Trump commended Takaichi as a ‘exceptional’ leader and congratulated her on assuming the role of the nation's inaugural woman prime minister. During their discussions at Tokyo's Akasaka Palace, Trump expressed optimism that Takaichi would become one of the ‘great prime ministers’ of Japan.

Takaichi, who is a close associate of late Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, applauded his initiatives to address international conflicts and reportedly pledged to put forward Trump for the prestigious award.

Economic and Defense Deals

The two governments announced a list of collaborative projects in areas such as power, AI, and critical minerals. Japan-based companies are considering investments of up to $400 billion in the United States.

Additionally, Japan had previously committed $550bn in long-term American projects, financing, and guarantees as part of an agreement to secure relief from the former president's tariffs.

These moves are viewed as possibly reducing any upcoming requests from Trump for Japan to increase its defense spending. Takaichi responded to this by promising to fast-track plans to raise military budget to 2% of gross domestic product.
