Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening stating they have knowledge of domestic violence allegations circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
